Ogun seals industry over alleged discharge of wastewater into community river

Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency Seals Bonny Pie Industry Over Pollution Claims
EWEKORO, Ogun State — The Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency (OGEPA) has taken action against Bonny Pie Industry, located in Akinbo Township, by sealing its facility due to allegations of environmental pollution. The company is accused of discharging untreated wastewater into a river that serves the local community.
This enforcement measure was executed on the directive of OGEPA General Manager Kehinde Bello on Wednesday, following a formal complaint lodged by Oba Rasheed Olamilekan, the Olu of Akinbo.
In his petition, Oba Olamilekan expressed concern that the discharge of untreated wastewater poses significant environmental and public health risks to residents of the area.
After receiving the complaint, OGEPA’s Enforcement Unit conducted an inspection of the facility to evaluate the allegations. The preliminary assessment led to the decision to seal the industry to prevent further environmental damage while a comprehensive investigation is carried out.
General Manager Bello reiterated the state government’s dedication to environmental protection and adherence to established regulations among local industries. He assured the Akinbo community that the ongoing investigation would be thorough and transparent, with appropriate actions taken based on the findings.
