Ogun: SWAT arrests ‘General Don’ for allegedly impersonating military officer

Operatives from the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) unit of the Ogun State Police Command arrested a suspected military impersonator early Tuesday morning in Abeokuta. The individual, identified as Akinola Damilare, was apprehended around 2:00 a.m. in the Kajola area of Elega.

The arrest was made following credible information received from a community leader and careful surveillance conducted by SWAT personnel. Law enforcement seized items from Damilare, including a military cap, three-quarter military trousers, and four photographs depicting him in military attire.

Police Public Relations Officer DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi confirmed the arrest in a statement on Thursday. He indicated that an investigation is underway to clarify the circumstances of the alleged impersonation and to identify any potential accomplices.

Babaseyi emphasized the police command’s dedication to combating impersonation and other criminal activities, encouraging residents to report any suspicious behavior promptly. The arrest highlights ongoing concerns about individuals posing as military and police personnel to carry out various crimes, including kidnapping, extortion, land grabbing, and intimidation. Victims often hesitate to confront these impersonators due to their military-like appearances.
