Ogun transport workers seek Abiodun’s help to stop impending crisis

Stakeholders within the Ogun State Parks Management (PAM) have urgently appealed to Governor Dapo Abiodun and leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to address concerns about potential disruptions to the management of transport parks across the state’s senatorial districts. In a petition submitted on Friday by a group identified as Concerned Central Leaders, the stakeholders warned that ongoing political maneuvers might destabilize park management structures, posing risks to public safety and commercial stability.

The petition highlights growing tensions in motor parks and transit hubs amid allegations that administrative boundaries are being reconsidered to favor specific regions. According to the leaders, the Ogun East senatorial district currently oversees five transport unions, while Ogun Central is limited to a single operational structure.

Despite this disparity, the petitioners claim there are plans to further diminish Ogun Central’s transport management by transferring its existing structure to Ogun East. They described this development as a troubling strategy that could incite civil unrest.

“The attempt to manipulate the state’s transport ecosystem for political gain threatens public safety, disrupts commercial activities, and jeopardizes the livelihoods of thousands of transport operators,” the petition reads.

The stakeholders cautioned that if the situation remains unresolved, it could lead to violent confrontations among competing transport groups, disrupt the movement of goods and passengers, and create security vulnerabilities at major parks in Abeokuta and throughout Ogun State. They urged for immediate intervention from state authorities, especially given the sensitive political landscape as another election cycle approaches.
