Ondo APC Primaries: Fadola alleges candidate imposition, backs NWC intervention

Fadola Critiques Conduct of APC Primaries in Ondo State
Emmanuel Fadola, a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, has criticized the recent primaries, alleging authoritarian actions by certain individuals who sought to impose candidates on party members.
Fadola urged party members to accept the recent decisions made by the National Working Committee (NWC) regarding disputes in the state’s primary elections. He asserted that intervention from the NWC was necessary, citing irregularities in the electoral process.
Despite numerous complaints about the primaries, some candidates were declared winners—a result Fadola deemed as an affront to democratic values and fairness.
In a statement to the media, Fadola drew parallels between the 2024 governorship primary and the recent National Assembly elections, both of which he claimed were conducted unsatisfactorily by party standards.
He noted that a meeting last week involving Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and members of the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC) should have occurred sooner to prevent the party’s issues from escalating.
Fadola emphasized that no single individual holds absolute authority within the party. He highlighted the substantial support Hon. Festus Akingbaso received from the constituents of Idanre/Ifedore Federal Constituency, as evidenced by photographs and videos of party members backing his candidacy. Fadola also stated that he had stepped down in support of Akingbaso.
“What remains perplexing is how a candidate, who had no agents at the voting centers, was eventually declared the winner,” Fadola remarked. He pointed out that this candidate had publicly withdrawn from the race just before the primaries took place, only to later face disqualification.
Fadola concluded that had there been genuine consultation with stakeholders and inclusion of all significant party leaders, the intervention from the NWC may not have been required.
