Ondo: Truck rams into motorcycle, kills two siblings

Two Siblings Killed in Motorcycle Accident in Akure
AKURE, Nigeria — Two brothers, known for their work as fruit sellers, were killed Wednesday when a truck collided with their motorcycle along Fiwasaye Road in Akure, the capital of Ondo State.
The victims, both middle-aged, were riding a Mate 90 motorcycle when they were struck by an unregistered tipper truck in front of the Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO). The motorcycle rider, Lawal Adegoke, and his brother were transported to the Federal University of Technology Teaching Hospital, where they were pronounced dead.
Witnesses reported that the accident may have been caused by VIO officials conducting inspections, which led to traffic congestion. A witness identified as Kunle described the scene, stating he fled for safety as the tipper truck struck multiple vehicles and motorcycles. “The truck crushed the two men on the motorcycle instantly,” he said. “I thank God for sparing my life.”
Authorities from the Nigeria Police Force were deployed to the scene to restore order after angry youths attempted to confront VIO officials. Police from the Ijapo Division later transported the victims’ bodies to the morgue.
Abayomi Jimoh, the Police Public Relations Officer for Ondo State, confirmed the incident. He noted that officers acted quickly to take photographs and document the scene. “Some angry youths attempted to attack officials of the VIO,” he said. “However, police personnel acted promptly and professionally to prevent a breakdown of law and order.”
Jimoh added that the bodies of the deceased have been preserved for autopsy, and the vehicles involved have been secured for further investigation.
The police extended their condolences to the families of the victims and urged motorists to exercise caution and adhere to traffic regulations to avoid similar tragedies. An investigation into the incident is currently ongoing.
