Operation Enduring Peace Troops Respond to Suspected Cattle Poisoning in Plateau State
KIMIS, Plateau State — Troops from Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP) intervened in a suspected cattle poisoning incident in Kimis village, located within the Bassa Local Government Area, on October 26, 2026. Reports indicate that one cow owned by local farmer Mr. Tanko died after grazing on what is believed to be a toxic substance.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama shared details of the incident in a post on X, citing security sources who stated that the event occurred around 9:00 a.m. Initial allegations have been made against Mr. Ako Adagwi as potentially responsible for the poisoning.
Upon receiving the report, troops from Sector 1 of OPEP swiftly responded to the scene. There, they discovered the deceased cow and noted preliminary findings suggesting that the animal succumbed after consuming the suspected poison; however, the precise circumstances surrounding the death remain unverified.
According to Makama, the presence of OPEP troops helped facilitate a resolution between the involved parties, effectively averting a potential escalation of conflict.
This incident underscores the necessity for prompt security intervention and peaceful dispute resolution, particularly in communities where conflicts over livestock and land use can heighten tensions. Local residents are urged to maintain peaceful relations and to direct any grievances to appropriate authorities for investigation and resolution, in order to foster a harmonious community environment.
