One dead, driver injured in separate road accidents in Lagos

Emergency Incidents in Lagos Result in Fatality and Injuries
LAGOS — A motor assistant was killed and a driver injured in three separate incidents involving road traffic accidents and a broken-down truck in Lagos State, according to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA).
The agency reported that the incidents transpired in various locations, including Oke-Oso in Epe, Olo-Iyalaro Bridge inward Maryland, and Olosha in Mushin, during overnight and early morning operations.
In a statement from LASEMA’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, it was noted that the Tiger Response Team was deployed at approximately 7:58 p.m. the previous evening to address a collision between two vehicles on Olo-Iyalaro Bridge.
The affected vehicles were identified as a Toyota Camry with registration number AGL-70HU and a Toyota Venza bearing the registration number FST-893KF. Preliminary investigations indicated that the Venza had stopped on the roadside due to a lack of fuel when it was struck by the Camry, whose driver is believed to have been under the influence of alcohol.
While no fatalities occurred during this incident, the driver of the Camry suffered injuries. LASEMA paramedics and the Lagos State Ambulance Service treated the driver on-site before transporting him to the Trauma Centre for further medical care. Both vehicles were subsequently towed to the Area F Police Station. Following the incident, LASEMA cleared the accident scene and reopened the bridge to traffic.
Separately, at Olosha in Mushin, LASEMA’s Eagle Response Team conducted operations at around 10:36 p.m. to address a traffic obstruction caused by a broken-down truck. The truck, a HOWO model with registration number JJJ-293XZ, had become immobilized due to damage to the roadway, blocking approximately 60 percent of the carriageway. No injuries were reported, and traffic diversion measures were implemented while the truck was recovered using LASEMA’s heavy-duty equipment, Super Metro.
The final incident occurred at Oke-Oso inward Itokin, Epe, where a fatal accident involved two granite-laden tipper trucks. LASEMA’s Whales Response Team was activated at about 6:19 a.m. following the collision. Investigations revealed that one of the trucks, identified by registration number ABG-226XB, experienced brake failure, lost control, and collided with another truck. The motor assistant in the first truck was ejected during the impact and died at the scene.
Authorities recovered the remains of the deceased and transferred them to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC). Both trucks involved in the collision were removed from the area and taken to the FRSC office.
LASEMA extended condolences to the family of the deceased and urged motorists to remain vigilant about their vehicles’ condition, refrain from driving after consuming alcohol, and adhere to road safety regulations. The agency affirmed its commitment to responding to emergencies throughout Lagos State and encouraged the public to report incidents through its toll-free numbers.
