Osun Amotekun Corps Reunites Woman and Children with Family
The Osun Amotekun Corps successfully reunited a woman and her two young children with their family after the trio was found wandering in Ogii town, along the Gbongan-Ibadan road. The reunion occurred less than 24 hours after the initial report was published in DAILY POST, following a rescue operation by the Corps.
According to a statement from Osun Amotekun spokesperson Yusuf Idowu Abass, the woman and her children, aged approximately three and one, were discovered during a night patrol on Thursday. They were found along the road at a late hour, prompting the operatives to intervene.
After their rescue, the woman and her children were taken to the Osun Amotekun headquarters in Osogbo for care while officers worked to identify them and contact their relatives. Initially, the woman was hesitant to communicate and spoke only incoherently, leading staff to involve the Gender, Family, and People with Disabilities Unit for further assistance.
Investigators gathered snippets of information from the woman, enabling them to trace her family to Ede. The woman’s husband, Olawale Muideen, was out of town at the time, but his brother, Mutiu Sodiq, and eldest son, Muideen Aliyullah, were able to identify her at the Amotekun headquarters.
During the reunion, Sodiq expressed gratitude to the Osun Amotekun Corps for their timely intervention and care. He acknowledged the operatives’ diligence in gathering useful information despite the woman’s condition and commended them for their compassionate treatment while she and her children were in custody. He noted that the family had been searching for the woman for days after she failed to return home.
Corps Commander Adekunle Isaac Omoyele praised the public and media for spreading awareness about the incident, emphasizing that safeguarding lives and property is a primary mandate of the Osun Amotekun Corps. He reiterated the importance of protecting vulnerable individuals, particularly children, and urged families to report missing relatives promptly to law enforcement.
Dr. Olusoji Benedict Akanni, Field Commander of the Corps, hailed the rapid identification of the family as a successful result of coordinated efforts and noted the challenges posed by limited information.
The Osun Amotekun Corps has since completed its investigation and formally handed over the woman and her children to their family.
