Osun barber remanded over alleged rape of niece

Barber Remanded in Alleged Rape Case Involving Niece

IESA, Osun State – A 40-year-old barber, Segun Oladapo, has been remanded at the Ilesa Correctional Centre following allegations of raping his 20-year-old niece. In addition, he is accused of administering unidentified substances to her to prevent pregnancy.

Oladapo was arraigned on Friday, October 16, 2026, before Magistrate Dr. Segun Ayilara. He faces charges alongside another defendant, Yetunde, who is alleged to have provided medical treatment to the victim after the incident.

The victim, referred to by the pseudonym “God’sglory” for confidentiality, had been living with her maternal relatives before moving into Oladapo’s home in Ilupeju Estate, Ofatedo, in Egbedore Local Government Area. According to court documents, she underwent a virginity check before being taken into her uncle’s residence, which was reportedly framed as a gesture of care for her future.

Oladapo allegedly assaulted the victim on April 1, 2026, and following the incident, he is said to have arranged for Yetunde—a patent medicine operator—to administer treatment aimed at preventing pregnancy. Yetunde, during questioning by authorities, claimed she treated the victim for malaria and typhoid. However, the victim contended that she received an intravenous drip containing unknown substances at her uncle’s command.

Further allegations suggest that Oladapo physically assaulted the victim and threatened her life if she disclosed the events to anyone outside the family. Despite attempts by the victim to seek help from relatives, the matter remained unreported to authorities, with suggestions made that it should be kept within the family.

The charge sheet indicates that a second incident allegedly occurred approximately three weeks before the victim reported the case. After confiding in others, she was connected with two female human rights activists who assisted her in bringing the matter to light. The case was formally reported to the Ido-Osun Divisional Police Station on October 10, 2026, and subsequently referred to the Violent Crime Response Unit for further investigation.

The victim has also requested the return of a blood-stained garment she claims Oladapo took after the first incident.

Following the arraignment, Magistrate Ayilara ordered that Oladapo remain in custody at the Ilesa Correctional Centre until the next hearing scheduled for November 30, 2026. Yetunde was granted bail set at ₦1 million and is required to attend court until the next scheduled session.
