Osun election: Law enforcement politicised – SDP chieftain, Adebayo

Adewole Adebayo, the presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) for the 2027 elections, has raised concerns about the politicization of law enforcement in connection with the upcoming governorship election in Osun State, scheduled for August 15, 2026.

Adebayo voiced his allegations during a live interview on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Thursday. He expressed apprehension regarding the integrity of elections in Nigeria and highlighted incidents of violence in Osun State in the lead-up to the polls.

“The lesson we can learn is that the 2027 elections should not mirror the Osun election, because if they do, we are starting on the wrong foot,” Adebayo stated. He referenced instances of violence and perceived unfairness already occurring in the state.

He further noted, “From the SDP’s perspective, we received recognition for our governorship candidate just yesterday, and all necessary activities, including debates and campaigns, have taken place.”

Adebayo’s comments underscore ongoing tensions and concerns about electoral practices in Nigeria as candidates prepare for the upcoming elections.
