Osun monarch, Alawo speaks against harmful traditional practices

The Alawo of Awo in Egbedore Local Government Area, Oba Abdulrazaq Taiwo Adegboye, has publicly condemned the practice of incisions along with other traditional customs, including certain elements of indigenous religion.

In a video shared with DAILY POST, the monarch voiced his concerns during a recent Islamic event held in Awo. He criticized aspects of Yoruba cultural traditions and religious beliefs that he views as negative.

“Since the day I was crowned as a traditional ruler, no one can publicly testify that they have seen any traditional incision on my body,” Oba Adegboye stated. “Anyone can come and testify if they have seen such on me.”

He urged market traders to place their trust in God, advising against giving money to traditionalists who might deceive them. “The practice is particularly prevalent among our market women. Salvation is found only in God, not in man,” he said. “Since you have been seeking shortcuts to wealth, have you truly become millionaires?”

The king encouraged attendees to remain steadfast in their faith and trust in God.
