Over 40 insurgents eliminated as Nigerian military pounds terrorists in Borno

No fewer than 40 members of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) were killed in a precision airstrike conducted by the Air Component of the Joint Task Force, Operation HADIN KAI, in northeastern Nigeria.

Captain Mohammed Goni, the task force’s information officer, announced the details in a statement released Monday. The airstrike targeted a terrorist enclave in Badu Village, located south of Gudumbali in the Guzamala Local Government Area of Borno State, and took place over the weekend.

According to the statement, the operation was initiated based on credible intelligence that indicated a group of ISWAP fighters had assembled to launch coordinated attacks against troops within Sector 3’s area of responsibility.

“Acting swiftly on the intelligence, the Air Component conducted targeted aerial surveillance, identified terrorist movements around suspected hideouts and logistics facilities, and subsequently executed a precision strike on a building occupied by the terrorists,” Goni said.

The statement revealed that a prominent ISWAP commander was among those killed in the airstrike, which also resulted in the destruction of two vehicles and approximately 20 motorcycles used for transportation and logistics by the militants.

Goni noted that the operation significantly weakened ISWAP’s fighting capability and disrupted plans for attacks on military positions and nearby communities.
