Traditional Ruler Claims Oyo State Government Plans to Dethrone Him
A traditional ruler in Oyo State, Oba Abraham Adeyeye Oyerinde, who serves as the Aresaadu of Iresaadu in the Surulere Local Government Area, has expressed concerns regarding alleged efforts by the state government to remove him from his position.
In a letter directed to Oyo State’s Acting Governor, Chief Adebayo Lawal, Oyerinde detailed his assertions, which were made public on Tuesday evening.
According to sources, Oyerinde was appointed to his position by the late Governor Abiola Ajimobi in May 2019. He received his staff and instrument of office on the same day.
The traditional ruler claims that the state government, specifically through the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr. Ademola Ojo, is plotting his removal. In his letter, Oyerinde urged the Acting Governor to intervene and encourage the commissioner to reconsider this decision.
Oyerinde contended that he was nominated for the throne by the Osunbiyi ruling house and that his nomination was sanctioned by government-appointed kingmakers. He expressed surprise at the alleged move by the state government to dethrone him, emphasizing that such actions are unwarranted without a court ruling declaring the throne vacant.
Additionally, Oyerinde called on the Acting Governor to halt ongoing meetings led by the Chairman of the local government area and the Emiolu ruling house regarding the nomination of a new candidate for the Aresaadu title.
In his letter, Oyerinde highlighted the urgency of his situation, stating, “It is of extreme importance and urgency to again call your attention to a disturbing matter as it relates to the injustice meted on me as Aresaadu of Iresaadu, HRM Oba Abraham Olafimihan Adeyeye by the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, headed by Hon Ademola Ojo.”
He concluded his appeal by urging the state government to cease any actions that may lead to his dethronement while affirming his legitimate appointment to the throne.
