Passenger dies during Kenya Airways flight to Lagos

A passenger died following a medical emergency on a Kenya Airways flight traveling from Nairobi to Lagos. The airline confirmed the incident in a statement on Wednesday.
The medical emergency occurred on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, as the aircraft approached Murtala Muhammed International Airport. According to Kenya Airways, the passenger became unresponsive at approximately 9:20 p.m. Nigerian time, around 20 minutes before the scheduled landing.
The airline’s statement described the event, noting, “One of our passengers was found to be unresponsive approximately 20 minutes before landing in Lagos.”
The flight landed at Murtala Muhammed International Airport at approximately 9:41 p.m. Medical personnel boarded the aircraft to assist the passenger but, after an examination, confirmed the individual had died.
Kenya Airways expressed condolences to the family and friends of the deceased, offering apologies for any distress caused by the incident. “We convey our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased and apologize for any inconvenience this incident may have caused. We uphold and respect the privacy and dignity of all involved,” the airline stated.
The carrier indicated that it is cooperating with the deceased passenger’s family, local authorities, and aviation regulators to provide necessary assistance and facilitate the procedures following the death.
