The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE) confirmed the death in an update issued on Saturday. The agency’s Saapade Unit Commander, Cmdr. Oridota P.O., provided the information following a visit to the hospital on Saturday morning.
TRACE spokesperson Akinbiyi Babatunde shared the details with reporters. The report did not disclose the identity, age, or gender of the deceased passenger. Hospital management informed the TRACE team of the passenger’s death during their visit.
This development marks a tragic conclusion to an accident that initially resulted in 13 injuries on Friday, with no fatalities reported in TRACE’s initial account. The agency stated, “In the course of embarking on a post-crash visit to OOUTH Sagamu this morning, it was announced by the hospital management that the only passenger in critical condition that was taken to OOUTH has passed on.”
The accident involved a Mazda bus carrying 18 passengers, which overturned after a tire burst and crashed into a concrete barrier along the Lagos-bound lane of the expressway. Among the injured were two men, eight women, and three children. They were taken to three different hospitals; one was admitted to OOUTH, nine were evacuated to Divine Hospital in Ogere, and three were transported to Isara General Hospital.
