People called me lazy after my career declined – Tekno

Tekno Discusses Vocal Cord Injury and Its Impact on His Music Career

Music artist Augustine Kelechi, popularly known as Tekno, has shared insights into the challenges he faced due to vocal cord damage caused by acid reflux, which significantly affected his career.

During a recent interview with Cool FM Lagos, Tekno recounted how, at the peak of his fame from 2018 to 2021, he struggled with this condition, which rendered him unable to sing and forced him into a lengthy hiatus. This break disrupted his career momentum and led to misunderstandings among his team and fans.

“I hated music,” Tekno admitted, explaining that his dedication to his craft waned as he grappled with the injury. He felt compelled to continue making music due to his recording contract, despite finding it difficult. Many around him misinterpreted his situation, labeling him “lazy” for his reduced output during this period.

The artist initially chose to keep his condition private, which furthered the misconception among those closest to him. “Even the people closest to me were saying that ‘he is just lazy. He doesn’t want to perform,’” he recalled, describing a difficult emotional state during his recovery. After regaining his ability to perform, Tekno’s aversion to music persisted for some time.

However, he noted that reading inspirational books played a crucial role in his emotional healing and ultimately helped him reconnect with music.
