Peter Okoye reacts as fan asks him to retire from music over age

Nigerian Singer Peter Okoye Responds to Retirement Suggestion Amid Age Criticism
Nigerian artist Peter Okoye, known as Mr P and one half of the now-defunct group P-Square, has addressed a comment from a fan who suggested he retire from music, citing his age.
The comment, made by a user on X, who identified herself as OloriOfOloris, highlighted that Okoye, at 44, is approaching 50 and questioned his continued involvement in the Afrobeats genre. She expressed her view, stating, “I don’t get why an almost 50-year-old man is still singing like this. It’s okay to retire❤️.”
Media personality Do2dtun countered the fan’s perspective, noting that several prominent international artists, including Celine Dion, Shakira, and Beyoncé, are older than Okoye. He remarked on social media that it is important to recognize talent regardless of age, stating, “Peter is 44, but you dimwits are so ageist that you don’t even know what you bring down in the name of clicks.”
In a subsequent response to the discussion, Okoye suggested that those advocating for his retirement are likely disappointed fans of P-Square. He pointed out the inconsistency in the criticism, highlighting that while he faces calls to step back, older performers like Usher and Chris Brown continue to receive praise.
“After they realized those narratives don’t hold water, they come up with another one: ‘Now he is too old to be singing and dancing,’” Okoye stated. He emphasized that the same individuals who criticize him often celebrate other artists for maintaining their careers well into their 40s and beyond.
