Police arraign 12 suspects over alleged rape, defilement, child abuse in Anambra

Anambra Police Arraign 12 Suspects on Numerous Charges

A total of 12 suspects have been arraigned in Anambra State for various offenses, including allegations of rape, defilement, and child abuse.

The arraignment took place on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, before the Gender Magistrate Court in Awka, as part of the Anambra State Police Command’s ongoing efforts to protect women and children.

According to a statement from police spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga, individuals facing charges include Chima Onyeanuna, Emeka Muo, and Okafor Chibundu, who are accused of abducting and defiling a 14-year-old girl in Nanka.

Other defendants, Ndubuisi Ikechebelu, Udogu Kennedy, Nnamah Christopher, and Chinecherem Emmanuel, are charged with raping a 19-year-old girl on multiple occasions, which resulted in her pregnancy.

In a separate case, Chukwudi Ugwu Jeremiah was arraigned for allegedly defiling an 11-year-old girl near Slaughter Lane in Awka. Charity and Chidiere Anakwe are accused of assaulting their 12-year-old house help, while Chukwudi Joseph faces charges for allegedly assaulting a 12-year-old girl in Ozubulu. Chibuike Agu is also charged with the defilement of a 13-year-old girl in Fegge.

Following the arraignment, the court ordered that all suspects be remanded at the Awka Correctional Centre until their respective cases are heard.

The Anambra State Police Command reiterated its commitment to safeguarding women and children from abuse and ensuring justice for victims. The command emphasized its zero tolerance for sexual and gender-based violence, child abuse, and acts against vulnerable individuals. It assured the public that investigations will continue diligently to bring offenders to justice.
