Police arrest man for locking his sister up for 17 months in Abuja

FCT Police Arrest Man for Allegedly Holding Sister Captive

Abuja — The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has arrested Chinedu Aniekuoko on allegations of maltreating his sister, Grace Aniekuoku. The arrest took place following a distress report received on June 12.

Commissioner of Police Ahmed Sanusi disclosed details of the case during a press briefing on Monday. According to Sanusi, the report indicated that the 36-year-old victim had been held captive for more than 16 months, chained and confined in a room by her brother.

After receiving the report, Sanusi deployed a team of detectives from the Katampe Division to investigate. Upon arrival, officers encountered resistance from the suspect, who denied them access to the premises where his sister was allegedly imprisoned.

Despite the suspect’s hostility, police managed to gain forceful entry into the room. Officers discovered the victim emaciated and in deplorable conditions, still wearing chains and surrounded by unclean environment.

“Mr. Chinedu was promptly arrested, while the victim was rescued and taken to a hospital, where she is currently receiving medical care,” Sanusi stated.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Chinedu had taken the victim’s son to an undisclosed location approximately two years ago. He then reportedly confined Grace to prevent her from questioning the child’s whereabouts.

The victim remains hospitalized, while police continue efforts to locate and rescue her missing son. “The suspect is presently in police custody and will face charges in court upon completion of the investigation,” Sanusi confirmed.

The Commissioner thanked local residents for their timely information, which significantly contributed to the successful operation.
