Taraba State Police Arrest Suspect and Seize Drugs
The Taraba State Police Command has arrested a 20-year-old man identified as Yusuf Aliyu, who was found in possession of 110 blocks of dried leaves believed to be cannabis. The arrest occurred in Dakka Village, located within the Bali Local Government Area, on October 13, 2026.
According to police, Aliyu, a resident of Chigeri in the Fofure Local Government Area of neighboring Adamawa State, was apprehended during an intelligence-led patrol along the Jalingo-Bali route.
Police Public Relations Officer Victor Mshelizah issued a statement on Wednesday confirming the details of the arrest. Officers intercepted Aliyu after discovering suspicious materials in his possession. A further search revealed the drugs concealed in three black sacks.
Preliminary questioning indicated that the suspect claimed ownership of the substance, stating he purchased it from an individual named Ayaga, whose last name remains unknown. Police reported that Ayaga is currently at large, and efforts are underway to locate him for further investigation.
The police command stated, “The suspect and the recovered exhibits will be handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Taraba State Command, for further investigation and necessary action in accordance with the law.”
Commissioner of Police Edwin Ogbeghagha reiterated the command’s commitment to combating crime and enhancing public safety in Taraba State, in line with the directives of Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu.
Ogbeghagha warned drug traffickers and criminal elements about the risks of engaging in activities that threaten community safety and youth development. He emphasized ongoing collaborations with relevant agencies and the Taraba State Government to intensify efforts against drug-related offenses.
The commissioner also urged the public to report any suspected drug trafficking or criminal activities to local police or appropriate security agencies. The Taraba police assured residents that they would maintain intelligence-led operations to safeguard communities across the state.
