Ekiti Police Arrest Suspected Motorcycle Thief, Recover Seven Stolen Bikes
Ado-Ekiti, Nigeria — The Ekiti State Police Command achieved a significant milestone in its anti-crime efforts with the arrest of a suspected motorcycle thief and two accomplices on July 18, 2026. The operation also resulted in the recovery of seven motorcycles believed to be stolen.
The action was carried out by the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) around 2:00 p.m. on Ilawe Road. Detectives acted on credible intelligence indicating that a suspect had stolen a red Bajaj motorcycle near Olaoluwa Muslim Grammar School and was attempting to flee in the direction of Ilawe Road.
During their pursuit, VCRU operatives located the motorcycle and apprehended the suspect, identified as 38-year-old Mustapha Lekan from Osun State. The stolen motorcycle was recovered during the arrest.
Upon interrogation, Lekan admitted to stealing two motorcycles within Ado-Ekiti. Further investigation led police to Ilogbo-Ekiti and Ido-Ekiti, resulting in the arrest of two additional suspects, Adebiyi Blessing and Ogunbayo Adebiyi, who are believed to be receivers of stolen property.
The investigation subsequently yielded six more recovered motorcycles, bringing the total to seven.
The Command stated that efforts are ongoing to identify the rightful owners of the recovered motorcycles and to apprehend other individuals involved in the criminal network.
Commissioner of Police Falade Adegoroye Michael praised the VCRU for their quick and professional response, emphasizing the commitment to safeguarding lives and property in the state. He reiterated the importance of intelligence-led policing in combating crime.
Adegoroye encouraged community members to continue supplying timely and accurate information to aid police efforts, stating, “We warn all criminal elements to desist from unlawful activities or be prepared to face the full weight of the law.”
He assured that all suspects would be prosecuted following the completion of the investigations.
