Police arrest suspects over murder of Gov Adeleke’s ally

The Osun State Police Command has announced the arrest of several individuals linked to the murder of Olalekan Oyeyemi, known as “Emir,” a close associate of Governor Ademola Adeleke.

Oyeyemi was reportedly shot on September 13, 2026, at Mayfair Park in Ile-Ife during a meeting of the Accord party, which focused on proposed amendments to the leadership structure of the park system by the Osun State Government.

In the wake of the incident, associates of Oyeyemi have expressed a commitment to pursuing justice. It has been alleged that some attackers wore uniforms resembling those of the Amotekun Corps during the assault.

The Osun Amotekun Corps has since refuted claims that any of its personnel were arrested in connection with the killing. Corps Public Relations Officer Yusuf Idowu stated that a group of operatives had been turned over to the police to assist with the investigation into the circumstances of the attack.

“The Corps Commander of the Osun Amotekun Corps handed the operatives over to the police to assist with the investigation and help clarify the circumstances surrounding the Ile-Ife attack,” Idowu said. He noted that the officers in question had been involved with a leader of the National Union of Road Transport Workers prior to the incident.

DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, spokesperson for the Osun State Police Command, confirmed that arrests had been made but could not immediately verify whether any Amotekun personnel were included among those detained.

“We are conducting a series of investigations related to Emir’s death; some individuals have been arrested in that regard,” Ojelabi stated, adding that further details about the identities and status of the suspects would be provided as the investigation continues.
