Police arrest two murder suspects, exhume corpse in Akwa Ibom
Two Arrested in Murder Case of 26-Year-Old in Akwa Ibom
The Akwa Ibom State Police Command announced the arrest of two suspects related to the murder of 26-year-old Nsikak Joshua in Oboetim Ikot Ekong Village, Nsit Ibom Local Government Area.
In a statement issued Monday in Uyo, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, revealed that the incident was reported to police on July 14, 2026, by the victim’s father, Mr. Ekere, 52.
According to the statement, Ekere alleged that his son was beaten to death by an individual identified as Otobong Nelson, also known as “Efok Ikid,” along with Inemesit Robert, Utibe Clement, and Victor Robert, all residents of the village.
The complainant detailed that on the morning of July 14, at approximately 8:40 a.m., the suspects allegedly appeared at his residence with spades, demanded he indicate where his son should be buried, and subsequently dug a shallow grave within his compound. They reportedly threatened him against reporting the incident to the authorities.
Detectives launched an immediate investigation upon receiving the report. Based on credible intelligence, operatives arrested Nelson and Clement early on July 17 at around 3:45 a.m.
During questioning, Nelson reportedly confessed that the deceased had been summoned regarding allegations of threatening a neighbor with a machete. He admitted to instructing his accomplices to assault Joshua with sticks, which led to his death.
Nelson also disclosed that after Joshua’s death, he and the others transported the body to Ekere’s compound and falsely claimed that the victim had been killed in a hit-and-run accident. They allegedly advised Ekere not to take the body to the morgue.
Following police intervention, the remains of Nsikak Joshua were exhumed and taken to the morgue for preservation and autopsy.
The Commissioner of Police condemned the actions of those involved and directed that the investigation be intensified to apprehend any remaining suspects.
