Police arrest two suspected Sara-Suka thugs in Bauchi

Police in Bauchi State responded to multiple incidents involving suspected Sara-Suka youths on Sunday evening, leading to one arrest and ongoing efforts to apprehend additional suspects.
Authorities received a distress call around 9:15 p.m. regarding disturbances in the Wayan Makafi, Unguwan Kur, and Kofar Dumi areas of the state capital. Reports indicated that the suspected youths had invaded Wayan Makafi and Unguwan Kur, prompting fear among local residents.
A patrol team from the D Division in Dutsen Tanshi, in collaboration with members of the Yan Committee, was dispatched to the scene and successfully dispersed the crowd. One suspect was apprehended, while efforts continue to locate others who fled.
In a related incident, police arrested 25-year-old Abubakar Adamu Aliyu, also known as Zadous, who is suspected of leading an assault against a Peace Corps volunteer in Kofar Dumi. Police stated that Aliyu and a group of armed youths attempted to storm the victim’s residence around 6:30 p.m., allegedly with intentions of carrying out an attack.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the attack was motivated by revenge, as the Peace Corps volunteer had reportedly informed law enforcement about Aliyu’s activities approximately seven months ago. Aliyu has a prior court record involving thuggery and had only regained his freedom the previous week.
Authorities confirmed that Aliyu remains in custody and will face charges after further investigations are completed.
Bauchi State Commissioner of Police Sani-Omolori Aliyu emphasized that the command would not accept any form of Sara-Suka activities, thuggery, or public disturbances in the area. In a statement issued on Monday, police spokesperson SP Nafiu Habib noted that the commissioner has instructed officers to maintain heightened patrols and conduct intelligence-driven operations to ensure community safety.
Habib also urged parents, guardians, and community leaders to urge their wards towards lawful behavior and to provide police with reliable information to help prevent crime.
