Police arrest two suspects over deaths of children in Bauchi

Bauchi State police have arrested two suspects in connection with the deaths of two children in distinct incidents that occurred in the Alkaleri and Ganjuwa Local Government Areas.

In a statement released on Monday, October 26, 2026, state police spokesperson Nafiu Habib confirmed the arrests.

The first incident involved a young boy who fell ill after drinking a beverage given to him by his stepmother, Fatima Ibrahim, 23, from Kwaimawa village. According to police reports, the boy became seriously ill on October 16, experiencing uncontrollable vomiting shortly after consuming the drink. He was initially taken to the Primary Health Care Centre in Kwaimawa and then transferred to the Federal Medical Centre in Gombe for additional care. Unfortunately, after eight days of treatment, he was pronounced dead on October 24.

Detectives initiated an investigation into the case following a report from the village head of Kwaimawa, which led to Ibrahim’s arrest. “Following a report by the Village Head of Kwaimawa, detectives swung into action and arrested the suspect. She is now in custody as the investigation continues,” the statement said.

The second case involved a five-year-old girl whose body was discovered in a water pit in Badaromo village. According to reports, her grandfather reported her missing around 7 p.m. on October 23, prompting a search by local residents. The child’s body was found the next morning at approximately 7 a.m.

Police from Soro Division secured the scene and arrested a 19-year-old man, Sadiku Musa, who resides in the same area. “Upon receiving the report, police operatives from Soro Division cordoned off the scene and arrested one Sadiku Musa, 19, of the same address, in connection with the heinous act,” the statement noted.

Both cases have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Bauchi for further examination.

Commissioner of Police Sani-Omolori Aliyu described the deaths as heartbreaking and inhumane, assuring the public that appropriate action would be taken against the suspects if they are found guilty. He also extended condolences to the families of the victims and urged parents, guardians, and community leaders to enhance their efforts in safeguarding children.
