Police arrest two teenage suspects for alleged illegal firearm possession in Kano

Two Arrested in Kano for Alleged Illegal Firearm Possession
KANO, Nigeria — The Kano State Police Command has detained two 19-year-old men on charges of unlawful possession of a firearm, recovering a locally made revolver pistol along with two rounds of live ammunition.
The arrests were announced in a statement released Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa.
According to the statement, the first suspect, Rufai Ahmed, was taken into custody around 10:30 p.m. on October 11, 2026, during an intelligence-led patrol on Sokoto Road. Officers from the Farm Centre Police Division reportedly stopped a tricycle, commonly known as Keke NAPEP, on suspension of criminal activity.
A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of a bag containing the revolver pistol and ammunition in Ahmed’s possession.
Subsequent investigations prompted the arrest of a second suspect, Aliyu Ibrahim, from Kawo Quarters in Kano. The Criminal Investigation Department has since taken over the case, following instructions from Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Adamu Bakori.
“The arrests are part of ongoing efforts to recover illegal firearms in accordance with directives from the Inspector-General of Police on intelligence-led policing,” the statement noted.
Bakori praised the officers involved in the operation and encouraged the community to provide credible information to assist in crime prevention efforts. He also indicated that a comprehensive investigation will be conducted, after which the suspects will face charges in court.
