Abia State Police Investigate Youth’s Homicide in Aba
The Abia State Police Command has initiated an investigation into the shooting death of a young man in Aba. The victim’s body has been recovered and transferred to a morgue for an autopsy.
According to a statement from police spokesperson DSP Maureen Chinaka, the incident occurred on May 24, 2026, at approximately 12:35 p.m. Preliminary findings indicate that unidentified assailants pursued the victim, ultimately shooting him outside a church near Opobo Junction in Aba.
Officers from the Eastern Ngwa Police Division, who were conducting patrols at Obikabia Junction, acted on intelligence that an individual had been shot in the area. The patrol team from Ohuru Division responded to the scene, where they discovered the deceased lying in a pool of blood.
“It was the District Police Officer at Obikabia Junction who received the distress call and dispatched his team to the location,” Chinaka said. “Preliminary investigations have revealed that the victim was chased by his assailants, who shot him as he sought refuge near the church.”
