Investigation Underway After Fatal Stampede at Post-Convocation Party in Ekiti

The Ekiti State Police Command has launched an investigation into a tragic incident that occurred during a post-convocation party in Ikere-Ekiti, resulting in three fatalities, including a recent graduate.

The stampede took place early Sunday morning, shortly after the convocation ceremony on April 18, 2028, when attendees gathered at the Emirate Hotel to celebrate. According to preliminary reports, a confrontation between two unidentified students escalated into a fight, prompting party-goers to flee the venue in a panic.

In a statement provided to the media, Ekiti State Commissioner of Police Adegoroye Falade confirmed the incident and expressed condolences to the families of the victims. He noted that the bodies of the deceased have been transferred to a morgue for autopsy.

“The Ekiti State Commissioner of Police has ordered a thorough investigation into this unfortunate event,” the statement read. “We are committed to uncovering the circumstances surrounding the incident and ensuring accountability.”

The victims included a hotel staff member and two students from the Bamidele Olumiluwa University of Education, Science and Technology (BOUESTI). Police are seeking to identify additional attendees and gather more information about the events leading to the stampede.

The commissioner urged the community to remain calm during the investigation and assured that comprehensive measures will be taken to address the situation.
