Police confirm 10 deaths in Taraba community attack

Ten Killed in Early Morning Attack in Karim II Constituency

AMAR WARD, TARABA STATE — Ten people were killed by unknown gunmen early Friday morning in an attack in the Karim II Constituency. The incident occurred in Amar Ward, where the assailants reportedly targeted residents, set homes on fire, and destroyed food supplies valued at millions of naira.

Victor Mshelizah, the Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the attack and noted that security personnel have been dispatched to the area. “There was an incident that happened yesterday involving an attack by unknown gunmen that claimed the lives of ten people. We currently have men deployed there,” Mshelizah said.

Details about the circumstances surrounding the attack remain sparse. However, local sources indicate that the assailants, suspected to have crossed from neighboring Plateau State, arrived unexpectedly, leading to widespread chaos. The incident forced several residents to flee to nearby communities, and reports suggest that some individuals are still missing.

Residents have alleged that distress calls were made during the attack, but security support arrived too late to prevent the violence. The incident has raised significant concerns about the security situation in Karim-Lamido, prompting community members to urge the Taraba State government and relevant security agencies to implement urgent measures to prevent further attacks.
