Police confirm killing of 19-year-old in Osun, suspect cult attack

Osun State Police Confirm Homicide of 19-Year-Old

The Osun State Police Command reported on Tuesday the death of a 19-year-old man, Timileyin Oni, who was killed in Ijebu-Jesa by unidentified individuals.

In addition to Oni’s death, three others sustained injuries in the incident and have been hospitalized.

Public Relations Officer Abiodun Ojelabi stated that preliminary investigations indicate the incident may be related to cult activity.

“The shooting occurred around 11 p.m. on Monday at T and K Junction in Ijebu-Jesa. Upon receiving reports of the incident, police officers were dispatched to the scene,” Ojelabi said.

“Upon arrival, officers discovered the body of Timileyin Oni, who was later pronounced dead at the hospital. Examination revealed a suspected gunshot wound to his head. His body has since been transferred to the mortuary, and family members have been notified,” he added.

Oni’s father reported to police that his son had been attacked while returning from church.

“At this time, three other individuals have been injured. Our investigation is ongoing, and I would prefer to refrain from discussing unverified claims circulating on social media,” Ojelabi remarked.

He noted that a warning had been issued by police the previous day regarding celebrations associated with cult groups, emphasizing the likelihood of a cult-related motive in the case. No arrests have yet been made, but the anti-cultism unit has been assigned to the area for further investigation.
