Security Forces Halt Suspected Bandit Attack in Sokoto State
SOKOTO, Nigeria — Security operatives in Sokoto State thwarted a coordinated attack by suspected bandits early Thursday morning, targeting Illela village in Achida town and Kwargaba hamlet. During the confrontation, one assailant was killed.
Authorities received a distress call regarding simultaneous attacks on the two locations, prompting the rapid deployment of operatives from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit and other tactical teams to the affected areas, according to police spokesperson DSP Ahmad Rufa’i.
Upon arrival, security personnel engaged the attackers in a gunfight, compelling them to retreat after sustaining injuries. “One of the suspects was neutralized, while others fled with gunshot wounds into a nearby forest,” the police stated.
Preliminary reports indicated that a local vigilante member was killed in the assault prior to the arrival of security forces. In response, authorities have initiated a manhunt to locate the fleeing suspects and continue operations in surrounding regions.
Residents have been advised to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to law enforcement.
