Bauchi, Nigeria — Operatives from the Bauchi State Police Command successfully thwarted an alleged cattle rustling operation on June 23, 2026, recovering six cows in the Bakal area of the Bauchi metropolis.

According to a statement released by the police on Wednesday, the operation was initiated following credible intelligence indicating that suspected cattle rustlers were attempting to move the animals toward a riverbank via the Goskaram axis of the city. The information was relayed to the police through the ‘A’ Division Police Headquarters in Township, Bauchi.

In response to the tip-off, police operatives collaborated with local vigilante members and were led by the Divisional Police Officer of ‘A’ Division. The team pursued the suspects, ultimately intercepting the rustlers and retrieving the six cows, while the suspects fled the scene.

“The livestock have been taken into police custody for identification, and efforts are ongoing to trace their rightful owners,” the statement read.

Bauchi State Commissioner of Police Sani-Omolori Aliyu has directed a thorough investigation into the incident and has ordered a manhunt for the fleeing suspects. Aliyu commended the officers and vigilantes involved in the operation for their swift and professional response.

He urged local residents to remain vigilant and support security agencies by providing credible and timely information to assist in crime prevention and detection.
