Police investigate killing of council chairman’s aide in Rivers
The Rivers State Police Command has launched an investigation into the shooting death of Phillip Barikui, a protocol aide to the Chairman of Khana Local Government Area, and another unidentified individual in Bori.
Assistant Superintendent of Police Blessing Agabe, the command’s spokesperson, urged the public to provide any information that could assist in apprehending those responsible for the killings.
Barikui was reportedly shot by unidentified assailants on Monday on Makoro Street in Bori; the second victim, who sustained gunshot injuries, was transported to a local hospital but succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.
This incident marks a significant escalation in violence, occurring just two weeks after the reported murder of Letam Kinee, also known as Langa, a member of the Khana Local Government Area Sanitation Committee. Kinee was killed along the Ken Saro-Wiwa Polytechnic Road in Bori.
The recent violence has raised alarm among residents regarding security in the Khana area.
