Police Neutralize Suspected Kidnap Kingpin in Kebbi State
Kebbi State Police Command has confirmed the neutralization of a suspected kidnap kingpin, Jiji Mujugu, during an operation in the Bagudo Local Government Area. Another gang member was also apprehended during the operation.
According to a statement issued on Saturday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, police operatives collaborated with other security agencies in response to credible intelligence. The operation resulted in the arrest of Bube Tukur, a resident of Kasuwar Daji in Bagudo, who is originally from Yarma Village in the Suru Local Government Area.
Investigations revealed that Tukur was a member of an eight-person gang allegedly led by Mujugu. The gang has been linked to the abduction of local resident Alhaji Abu Geza. During the arrest, authorities recovered a locally fabricated pistol and a live cartridge from Tukur.
Usman reported that Tukur subsequently guided security personnel to Mujugu’s hideout. Upon arrival, Mujugu opened fire and attempted to flee, prompting a return of fire from the officers. Mujugu was neutralized during this exchange, with an additional locally fabricated pistol recovered from the scene.
Authorities successfully rescued the kidnapped victim, Alhaji Abu Geza, unharmed.
The gang has reportedly been terrorizing several communities, including Geza, Adawa, Matsinkai, Sharabi, Illela, Suru, Dakin Gari, and Bagudo, among others. The police indicated that efforts are ongoing to capture other fleeing gang members.
Usman also conveyed the Commissioner of Police’s appreciation for the community’s cooperation and urged residents to continue providing timely, credible information to security agencies.
