Police rescue suspected abductor from being lynched in Abuja

Police Rescue Man Accused of Attempted Child Abduction

Operatives with the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command rescued Bashir Usman from an angry mob that was attempting to lynch him for allegedly trying to abduct a five-year-old child. The incident occurred on Saturday, October 4.

According to SP Josephine Adeh, the Police Public Relations Officer, the police received a distress call about an unidentified man being assaulted by the mob. Officers from the Kuje Division were promptly dispatched to the scene, where they intervened to prevent further violence against Usman.

Preliminary investigations indicate that Usman was being attacked due to accusations that he attempted to abduct the child outside her home in Angwan Lado, located in the Kuje Area Council of the FCT.

Usman is currently in protective custody as investigators expand their inquiries into the allegations and seek to identify any accomplices involved in the incident.

CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, the FCT Commissioner of Police, urged the public to refrain from taking the law into their own hands. He emphasized that such actions, often referred to as jungle justice, are not only illegal but also constitute a serious crime under the law.
