Police rescue suspected motorcycle thief from mob, recover bike in Niger

BIDA, Nigeria — Mustapha Suleiman was rescued by police on the night of October 15 after residents attempted to lynch him over allegations of theft, according to a statement released by police spokesperson SP Wasiu Abiodun.
Police received reports of the alleged theft and dispatched officers from the B Division in Bida to the location, where they intervened to rescue Suleiman, a resident of the Takowasa area.
During questioning, Suleiman reportedly told investigators that he was accompanied by an accomplice, identified as Aliyu Mohammed Baba-Ndachiko, from the Darachita area. Suleiman claimed they traveled to Masaba on a motorcycle earlier that evening, where Baba-Ndachiko directed him to a motorcycle parked near a shop that they intended to steal.
Suleiman purportedly attempted to start the motorcycle, only to find it lacked fuel. His efforts to move the vehicle towards the Lan-Nzu River drew the attention of local residents, who subsequently raised the alarm.
The police recovered the motorcycle, which bore the registration number MNA 66 US. Suleiman has since been charged in court. Authorities are continuing their search for his accomplice, who remains at large.
