Abuja Chief Magistrate Court Dismisses Case Against Social Media Activist
The Chief Magistrate Court in Abuja has dismissed a criminal case against social media activist VeryDarkMan, citing a lack of evidence. The decision was made on Tuesday, August 4, 2026.
In an Instagram video posted shortly after the ruling, VeryDarkMan, whose real name is not disclosed, celebrated his acquittal, stating he had faced legal challenges for two years. He had been charged with impersonation after allegedly wearing a Nigerian police uniform without authorization, an offense punishable by two to five years in prison.
“First of all, congratulations to me. It’s with great pleasure to announce that the battles are all over,” he said in the video. “The case has been struck out for lack of evidence, and therefore I have been honorably discharged and acquitted.”
VeryDarkMan was initially arraigned in 2024, following claims that he identified himself as a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) and referred to himself as Nigeria’s “number one online police officer.” In November 2024, he was granted bail amounting to 2 million Naira.
This recent court ruling concludes a lengthy legal ordeal for the activist, who previously garnered attention for his controversial online presence.
