Nigerian Artist Portable Injured in Car Accident Before Baby’s Naming Ceremony

Ogun State, Nigeria — Portable, a popular Nigerian street-pop artist, was involved in a car accident Thursday night, one day prior to the naming ceremony for his newborn son.

According to Portable, the incident occurred when he experienced brake failure while driving. He reported that he swerved his vehicle into a ditch to avoid a collision with another car, narrowly escaping serious injury.

In an Instagram video, Portable expressed gratitude for his safety, stating, “I was just driving out when the accident happened. Nothing happened to me; I came out unhurt.” He added, “My people have arrived here at the scene. I thank God they are not here to carry my corpse.”

Portable had made arrangements for the naming ceremony by purchasing two cows. He noted, “Thank God the accident didn’t happen when a trailer was passing by on the road.”

In celebration of the baby’s arrival, Portable had previously distributed free ankara aso ebi clothing to attendees of the naming ceremony. His wife, Bewaji, gave birth during Portable’s boxing match with Carter Efe on May 1, 2023.
