Postecoglou secures slice of Premier League history

Ange Postecoglou keeps kicking goals.

His meteoric rise to the Premier League with Tottenham Hotspur has continued with his second Manager of the Month gong.

In winning it for the first time last month, he became the first Australian to do so. Now, he’s gone back-to-back fresh off an unbeaten run in September.

Postecoglou is also the first Premier League manager to win successive titles in the first two months.

Jurgen Klopp was the last manager to do the double in 2019-20 with Liverpool. That year, Liverpool went on to win the Premier League.

If that’s anything to go by, it’s a good omen for Tottenham who sit atop the Premier League ladder – level with Arsenal – with six wins and two draws.

Arsenal’s Mikel Arteta, Aston Villa’s Unai Emery, Newcastle’s Eddie Howe, and Klopp were also up for the award.

The award is voted on by the public and a panel of experts.

In September, Spurs beat Burnley in a 5-2 thrashing before a 2-1 win over Sheffield United followed. They ended the month with a 2-2 draw against Arsenal.

Postecoglou is well on his way to a third Manager of the Month crown after starting October with a 2-1 win over Liverpool and most recently a 1-0 win against Luton Town.

Tottenham have two more matches to close out the month against the 12th-placed Fullham and Crystal Palace in ninth.

Postecoglou wasn’t the only individual to star for the Spurs. Captain Son Heung-min was declared the Player of the Month after scoring a hat-trick in the 5-2 win over Burnley.
