Amaarae Asserts Janet Jackson Deserves “King of Pop” Title Over Michael Jackson
Ghanaian-American singer Amaarae recently expressed her belief that Janet Jackson is more deserving of the title “King of Pop” than her late brother, Michael Jackson.
In an interview with Pitchfork, Amaarae discussed the influence of Jackson’s 1997 album, The Velvet Rope. She praised the album’s depth, calling it “vulnerable, sexy, aggressive, and experimental.”
“Every Janet Jackson album is fantastic. But The Velvet Rope is the best,” Amaarae stated. “If I was aware in 1997 when the album dropped, I would have played it nonstop.”
Amaarae concluded her remarks by asserting, “Janet, to me, is the real king of pop. No shade to Michael Jackson.”
