Religious leaders benefiting from Nigeria’s insecurity, hardship – Singer Spyro claims

Afrobeats Star Spyro Criticizes Religious Leaders Over Insecurity and Economic Hardship in Nigeria
LAGOS, Nigeria — Afrobeats singer Spyro has accused religious leaders in Nigeria of profiting from the nation’s ongoing insecurity and economic struggles.
In a recent interview with Wozobia FM, Spyro expressed concern over the silence of many clerics regarding these pressing issues, suggesting that their reluctance to speak out is due to the benefits they receive amid the country’s challenges.
“Religious leaders should advocate for the safety of their congregations and address the issue of insecurity in their sermons. They also have a responsibility to provide proper electoral guidance to their followers,” Spyro remarked.
He further criticized clergymen for their lack of engagement with critical social issues. “Unfortunately, they are not doing that because the more the country deteriorates, the more financial gain they experience,” he added.
Spyro emphasized the importance of holding all leaders, including religious figures, accountable for their roles in society. He noted that crisis situations often lead to increased benefits for religious leaders, highlighting a need for greater advocacy and support for vulnerable communities during difficult times.
