Reps extend 2025 budget capital implementation to December 2026
The House of Representatives has approved an extension of the implementation deadline for capital projects and expenditures under the 2025 Appropriation Act. The new deadline has been set for December 31, 2026, extending the original deadline from September 30, 2026.
This extension follows a request from President Bola Tinubu to the National Assembly, aimed at providing additional time for government ministries, departments, and agencies to complete ongoing infrastructure projects funded by the 2025 budget.
This marks the fourth extension of the capital implementation deadline. Initially set for December 31, 2025, the deadline was first extended to March 31, 2026, then to June 30, and most recently to September 30, 2026.
Lawmakers considered and passed the amendment bill through expedited readings during a plenary session. The extension is intended to prevent the abandonment of essential capital projects due to funding and implementation challenges.
With this approval, federal ministries, departments, and agencies have until December 31, 2026, to utilize and execute the capital allocations specified in the 2025 Appropriation Act.
