Nigerian Resident Doctors Set Two-Week Ultimatum for Federal Government
The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has issued a two-week ultimatum to the federal government, demanding action on longstanding welfare and remuneration issues or face a nationwide strike.
During a national executive council meeting held in Gombe, the association voiced its concerns over delays in salary payments, promotion, and professional allowance arrears. Additionally, members highlighted outstanding payments related to the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS) and welfare challenges impacting house officers.
NARD also condemned the rising incidents of assaults against healthcare workers and called for improved legal protections for medical professionals.
The association warned that if the government does not address their concerns by August 10, they will initiate a comprehensive industrial strike across the country.
Despite these grievances, NARD acknowledged the federal government’s recent disbursement of the 2026 Medical Residency Training Fund to eligible beneficiaries, urging the swift payment of any doctors who were overlooked in the allocation.
