Rivers State Police Arrest Two Suspected Kidnappers, Rescue Victim

The Rivers State Police Command has apprehended two individuals suspected of being part of a six-member kidnapping syndicate connected to the abduction of a man in Port Harcourt. The arrests were announced in a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Blessing Agabe, on Monday.

The victim, identified as Hassan, was held captive for three days after being abducted on September 6, 2023, near Fidelity Bank in the Garrison area of Port Harcourt. According to police reports, his relatives paid a ransom of 10.3 million naira for his release.

The statement revealed that the kidnappers transported Hassan to Igbugulu Waterside in Borikiri, where he remained until his release. Following receipt of information regarding the kidnapping on September 7, police operatives from the Violent Crime Response Unit launched an investigation.

This intelligence-driven operation resulted in the arrest of two suspects from the gang, who allegedly confessed to their involvement. The police indicated that the group consists of six members, who utilized a white mini-bus during the abduction.

Authorities are continuing their efforts to locate and apprehend the remaining members of the syndicate. The police spokesperson emphasized the command’s commitment to intensifying operations aimed at bringing all suspects to justice.
