Two Traffic Accidents in Lagos Leave One Dead and Seven Injured
LAGOS, Nigeria — A roadside hawker was killed in a traffic incident on Saturday in Okokomaiko, while seven others sustained injuries in a separate crash at Ogudu, according to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).
In a released statement, LASTMA confirmed that the two accidents occurred in different locations within the state and that its officials promptly responded to assist those affected.
The fatal accident in Okokomaiko involved a Lexus Jeep with the registration number SMK 674 HY. Emergency responders secured the area and removed the deceased, an adult male, from the roadway to prevent further risks to other motorists. Police from the Ketu Division later arrived to take over the scene and transported the body to the Badagry Mortuary for further procedures.
At the Ogudu inward Toll Gate, another collision involved a Mazda commercial bus, marked MUS 231 YA, and a Lexus Jeep with registration number FKJ 23 HL. Seven passengers suffered injuries as a result of this incident and received immediate assistance at the scene.
Officers from the Ogudu Police Division supported LASTMA’s emergency response efforts, while the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) transported the injured individuals to nearby medical facilities for care.
Authorities confirmed that all vehicles involved in both accidents have been turned over to the police for further investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crashes.
Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, General Manager of LASTMA, urged motorists to exercise caution on the roads. He emphasized the importance of adhering to traffic regulations, avoiding excessive speed, and remaining vigilant, particularly during nighttime driving when visibility can be compromised.
“LASTMA remains committed to ensuring road safety and effective traffic management across the state,” the statement concluded.
