Rodri Returns to Spain as Manchester City Accepts Barcelona Bid
August 17, 2026
Barcelona has secured the services of Rodri, the World Cup-winning midfielder and captain of Spain, after Manchester City accepted a transfer offer of £65.4 million (approximately $88.47 million).
According to reports from Sky Sports, Rodri has agreed to a four-year contract with the Spanish club and is expected to finalize the transfer at Camp Nou next week.
During his time at Manchester City, Rodri won a total of 12 major honors, including four Premier League titles, two FA Cups, three League Cups, and the UEFA Champions League. He made 298 appearances for the team over seven seasons at the Etihad Stadium.
Rodri joined City in 2019 from Atletico Madrid for a then-club-record fee of £62.8 million (about $80 million). His contract with City had one year remaining, and the club had been seeking an extension.
The 30-year-old midfielder did not participate in City’s recent 3-0 defeat to Arsenal in the Community Shield, as he was recovering from minor back surgery performed earlier in the week.
