Rupert Murdoch, 92, Stepping Down As Head Of Fox News – Are Never Trumpers Now In Charge?

Rupert Murdoch announced on Thursday that he will be stepping down as the chairman of Fox and News Corp. in November, handing over the network to his son Lachlan.

Though liberals love to portray the Murdoch family as crazed pro-Trumpers, many would argue that they have shown time and again that they can’t stand the former President Donald Trump, so viewers should not expect Fox News to change too much with this shift in power.

Murdoch Steps Down

The Hill reported that Murdoch, 92, will be transitioning into the role of chairman emeritus for both Fox and News Corp., and Lachlan will become the sole chairman of News Corp while continuing as the CEO and executive chairman.

“Our companies are in robust health, as am I,” Murdoch wrote in a letter to employees. “Our opportunities far exceed our commercial challenges. We have every reason to be optimistic about the coming years – I certainly am, and plan to be here to participate in them. But the battle for the freedom of speech and, ultimately, the freedom of thought, has never been more intense.”

Lachlan ‘Absolutely Committed To The Cause’

Murdoch, who launched Fox News in the late 1990s with the goal of competing with mainstream media outlets, went on to say that Lachlan is “absolutely committed to the cause.”

“Selfserving bureaucracies are seeking to silence those who would question their provenance and purpose,” Murdoch continued. “Elites have open contempt for those who are not members of their rarefied class. Most of the media is in cahoots with those elites, peddling political narratives rather than pursuing the truth.”

Murdoch concluded by saying that he plans to stay “involved every day in the contest of ideas.”

“I will be watching our broadcasts with a critical eye, reading our newspapers and websites and books with much interest, and reaching out to you with thoughts, ideas, and advice,” he stated.

Lachlan Reported To Be Anti-Trump

Liberals love to portray the Murdochs as crazed pro-Trumpers, but their own outlets indicate that they actually despise the former president.

“Fox News largely refrains from criticizing Donald Trump. But, in private, Lachlan Murdoch has denounced some of the former President’s behavior in harsh terms,” CNN’s Oliver Darcy reported last year.

“In private this year, the Fox Corp. chief executive has freely criticized Trump, saying that he disagrees with much of the way the former President behaves, sources tell me,” he continued. “Murdoch has gone so far as to tell people that he believes if Trump were to run again, it would be bad for the country, I’m told.”

Darcy went on to say that “Murdoch has also noted that the Fox News audience continues to support Trump. Which is to say that Murdoch knows that supporting Trump is good for business — and, more importantly, he knows that pillorying him is bad for business because it would alienate the channel’s core audience.”

While it is jarring to think of Fox News no longer being led by Rupert Murdoch, it’s likely that the network won’t radically change with his son in charge, as many would argue that he is just another Never Trumper.
