Sango-Ota-Joju flooding: Ado-Odo/Ota Council, Ogun Govt inspect corridor
Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Council officials are set to collaborate with state agencies and stakeholders to tackle flooding and infrastructure challenges impacting local residents.
Council Chairman Lawal Wasiu announced this initiative during a technical inspection of the flood-prone Sango-Ota–Joju corridor along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway. Accompanied by Sango Ward Councillor Joel Okeodebija, Lawal expressed concern over the recurring flooding, which affects commuters and local businesses.
The corridor, a key route on the busy expressway, frequently experiences flooding during heavy rainfall, disrupting traffic and posing risks to nearby communities.
The inspection team included representatives from the Ogun State Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, including Engineers Ilo Solomon and Adeyinka, as well as officials from the Ministry of Environment, including Engineers Dare Samuel and Ogunremi Abiola.
The officials pledged to intensify efforts to develop a lasting solution to the flooding problem, emphasizing the necessity for coordinated engineering and environmental strategies. They noted that runoff from surrounding areas, particularly Sango-Ota and Ijoko-Ota, significantly contributes to the flooding issue.
Addressing the situation requires cooperation among various governmental agencies, local authorities, construction firms, and other stakeholders, they stated.
Engineers from Craneburg Construction Company, the firm currently managing the road project, participated in the inspection and provided technical insights regarding vulnerable areas. The team evaluated existing drainage channels and erosion-prone spots, discussing potential enhancements to manage water flow, safeguard road infrastructure, and mitigate the effects of future rainfall events.
