Sanusi, Bayero set for separate royal processions in Kano
Kano is set to host two royal processions on Sunday, September 27, 2026, as Muhammadu Sanusi II, the 16th Emir of Kano, conducts the Hawan Babban Daki. Concurrently, the 15th Emir, Aminu Ado Bayero, will participate in the Hawan Fatahu Yakasai.
Sanusi II’s procession will commence from his palace, Gidan Tunda, and will traverse through Kofar Kwaru and Mandawari before proceeding to Galadanci in the evening.
In contrast, Bayero is anticipated to depart from his palace for his residence in Mandawari. His procession will later move through Kofar Kwaru to Unguwar Yakasai to attend a Qur’anic graduation ceremony.
Both processions include shared routes through Mandawari and Kofar Kwaru, raising concerns due to their overlapping schedules. Observers will be closely monitoring the events, hoping they unfold without any incidents as supporters of both emirs gather in the same locations.
Tensions between the two royal figures have escalated since Sanusi II’s reinstatement by the current administration, which operates under the New Nigerian Peoples Party. Bayero, reportedly supported by the Federal Government, continues to assert his claim to the throne while residing at Nassarawa Palace.
