Sanwo-Olu neets Lagos security chiefs ahead of Yuletide
LAGOS, Nigeria — Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu convened a meeting with key security officials in Lagos on Tuesday to evaluate the state’s current security measures and bolster arrangements in anticipation of the year-end festivities and other significant events.
The meeting, held at the State House in Marina, focused on assessing the security landscape and preparing for an expected increase in visitors during the holiday season. Sanwo-Olu reassured both residents and visitors of his administration’s commitment to safeguarding lives and properties, while actively working to prevent crime throughout the state.
“We will not relent on our efforts to ensure that criminals don’t find a place for their evil activities in our state,” the governor stated.
During the meeting, security leaders briefed Sanwo-Olu on ongoing operations within Lagos and discussed potential measures to enhance public safety in the upcoming months. Present were notable figures such as Tijani Fatai, Commissioner of Police for Lagos State Command; Brig. Gen. A.O. Owolabi, Commander of the 9 Brigade, Ikeja; and Commodore A. Adams-Aliu, Commander of Nigerian Navy Ship Beecroft. Other attendees included Air Commodore M.A. Imam, Commander of the 651 Base Services Group, and Dr. Ayodele Ogunsan, Executive Secretary of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund.
Additional participants were Tayo Ayinde, Chief of Staff to the Governor; Abimbola Hundeyin, Secretary to the State Government; and Lawal Pedro, Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice.
The meeting coincided with preparations to host President Bola Tinubu, who is expected to arrive in Lagos on Tuesday for several official engagements during his visit.
With the festivities approaching, the state is gearing up for increased travel and activity, anticipating a substantial influx of visitors. Furthermore, the government is preparing for heightened religious, cultural, and political activities in light of the Independent National Electoral Commission’s announcement regarding the start of campaigning for the 2027 general elections.
